The Knickerbocker
The Knickerbocker
Located at 1601 Beacon Street near busy Washington Square, The Knickerbocker features three residential floors of three units each, all over a parking/lobby level. The building was designed to reflect the scale and character of adjacent properties while avoiding replication of 19th century details.
Many of the design elements reflect the developer’s penchant for the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. From its arched entry to its sheltering roof lines, perhaps the most interesting and overlooked of these is the Wrightian pattern embedded within the brickwork on its blank western wall.
The building was hailed by the local Planning Board as, "a beautiful piece of urban sculpture."
