The result of a complex and inclusive permitting process involving The Army Corps of Engineers, various environmental permitting groups, historians, and various other civic associations, James Landing is probably one of the last residential waterfront projects to be constructed in this idyllic seaport town. The complex, which includes 50 luxury condominiums and a community building, overlooks thousands of acres of scenic salt marsh and features a state of the art, ocean-access marina. Both its architecture and landscaping have won national acclaim for their compatibility with an environmentally sensitive, breath-taking natural environment.
The complex was designed by the Boston architectural firm DiMella Shaffer and was billed as, “Frank Lloyd Wright comes to Scituate.“ The design emphasis was on the long, sloping roof lines and the general horizontality of the buildings that are quiet and sympathetic additions to the views from the road, the marsh, and the river. All of the condominium units have sweeping views of the marshland that changes colors with the seasons. The Herring River, with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean, runs through the middle of the marshland and enhances the views.
