Currently under construction in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, these two projects are the result of a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the City of Boston’s Mayor's Office of Housing. PARENT+ DIAMOND and Urban Spaces, a joint venture under the umbrella of the Boston Partnership for Community Reinvestment (BPCR), was awarded the project and is developing a total of 27 units in 16 buildings on various vacant, scattered sites identified in the RFP. All are either single family dwellings, side-by-side semi-attached single-family dwellings, or two-family dwellings designed by the city to fit in seamlessly with the existing architectural lexicon of the host neighborhoods. The new housing is primarily aimed at an affordable home buyer, especially those currently renting in the subject neighborhood. The development itself, and especially its construction, is primarily focused on creating a sustainable “economic development engine” in our wake.
Following the construction protocol established years earlier at Concord Village and Eagle Creek in Indianapolis, the BPCR is using local, minority and women contractors, subcontractors, and vendors for the entirety of the construction, along with a palette of minority consultants. The intention is to create a “mass-production” approach to construction that will facilitate the speed of construction along with creating a critical mass for better pricing.
The projects, including the diverse team behind them, are being coordinated by PARENT+ DIAMOND Founding Principal, Ralph Parent, and the Vice-President of Operations for Urban Spaces, Jeffrey Hirsch.
